Chiloquin Oregon is located about 27 miles North of Klamath Falls and is located at the confluence of the Williamson and Sprague Rivers in the heart of the Three Rivers Recreation area of Klamath County. The third river is the Wood River, which lies between Fort Klamath and Chiloquin. Abundant national and state forest lands surround the area, which is heavily studded with pine, aspen and cottonwood forests, rivers, lakes, stretches of fields, and is noted for its fishing, hunting, camping and skiing opportunities. Chiloquin is named for Edison Chiloquin, a member of the Klamath Tribes and is the home of the administrative offices of the Klamath Tribes.
Although the closure of the lumber mills has changed Chiloquin from the rowdy boomtown it was during its formative years in the 1920s and 1930s, the now quiet little town has a population of forward-looking individuals who are working towards steady, controlled regeneration and the town has gained respect among many in surrounding communities.
When the town was incorporated in 1926, the surveyor made a mistake and included only half the territory the founders had intended; as a result, although the 2000 census lists the population of Chiloquin as 716, actual population is at least twice that figure. Students attend Chiloquin Elementary School and Chiloquin Jr./Sr. High School, the home of the Panthers!
