Malin Oregon Real Estate Services

Community Profile

The Malin, Oregon real estate market has never been more exciting and Coldwell Banker
Holman Premier Realty
can provide you a complete range of real estate services. Malin, Oregon is a quaint farming community located 30 miles Southeast of Klamath Falls and 10 miles East of the town of Merrill.

In 1909, 66 members of the Czech Colonization Club settled on land that was formerly the bottom of Tule Lake. The Czech Colonization Club was formed in Nebraska for Czech’s who wished to relocate to a different state and way of life. Horseradish plants were found in the Malin area and these reminded the Czech’s of a famous Bohemian horseradish that grew in Malin, Kunta Hora, Czechoslovakia. Therefore, the town was called Malin and was incorporated in 1922.

The Community of Malin, Oregon

Malin, OR is Located in the fertile Klamath Basin and is a close-knit community with a colorful history. In 2004, Malin celebrated the 95th anniversary of its founding. Throughout its ninety-five year history, Malin has been a beacon of hope for people searching for a better way of life. While the city’s history dates back to 1909, development in the area began much sooner.

In 1909 many Czech’s migrated west to settle in the Klamath project. Frank Adams took them to the tract of land owned by the Lakeside Land Company. The Czech’s quickly bought up these properties at $40 an acre and most settlers purchased 50 acres. On the land set aside for a town site, the new settlers established the community of Malin, named for a farming community in Czechoslovakia.

Today, Malin continues to move forward. Its large 36 acre park, complete with Olympic size swimming pool, is unusual for a town of its size. From the Oregon State Babe Ruth baseball tournament to the Malin Park Cruise, the park offers a wide variety of activities that draws thousands of visitors to Malin each Summer.

Today, like throughout its history, Malin represents what is right about rural America. Malin’s history is about neighbors helping neighbors, and hard working people creating their own opportunities. Although Malin has seen many changes, one thing that has never changed is its strong community spirit, which is envied by other communities in the area. A community spirit which will continue to help Malin grow throughout the years to come. Students attend Malin Elementary School and Lost River Jr. & Sr. High School.
